What is Fiverr?
Fiverr is a gig economy freelancer community where anyone can offer services starting at $5. It is an open marketplace where you can sell or buy the services.
The company was founded in Israel in 2010 as a small startup and has since raised over $100 million in multiple investment rounds. Fiverr International Ltd. (FVRR) is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is worth several billion.
As a freelancer, you can register with Fiverr and offer your own services. The platform impresses with its simplicity and that includes the pricing. As a beginner, you can offer your services at a limited price. Prices always go in 5 USD increments.
Fiverr was founded with the idea that each service should cost $5 (hence the name). However, the platform has grown so much that this is no longer the case today.
More Fiverr-style platforms
As is to be expected, numerous other founders have also tried similar platforms. A few of them were also able to establish themselves. These include PeoplePerHour, Legiit, or Crowdguru.
The platforms differ on the one hand in design and functions – but the biggest difference is definitely in the range. None of the other providers can generate as much traffic as Fiverr. Accordingly, as a seller on Fiverr, you can hope for more customers than on other websites.

As of this writing, the vendor has 28 active orders to process. In the worst case, that’s USD 1,120. Because Fiverr gets 20% of the USD 1,400 that the customer pays. However, we can assume that some buyers will not just buy the $50 package.

The further up you want to go, the better your stats need to be. The better your level, the more features you get and the more gigs you can offer at the same time.
That means: You have to make sure that your values always remain positive! Otherwise, you cannot become successful.
Start cheaply – for the reviews
You can only get many orders if you have some positive reviews. So the easiest method is to start off by offering your gigs very cheaply (likely $5).
If you know other Fiverr users, you can also get them to place some orders. But that’s probably against the rules.
Customer service is everything!
Especially at the beginning, you can’t afford a bad rating. You have to make sure that every customer is happy with your service.
That can be totally uncool sometimes… some customers are fucking assholes (sorry)… But it’s true. You have to remember that the smarter ones give in.
Products instead of services
If you’re looking for Premium customers, then forget Fiverr! Here you work with mass instead of class. Otherwise, you’re working yourself to death for a few bucks.
The more customized your offering, the more difficult it will be to reach critical mass. That means you have to do the opposite.
Let’s go back to the example from before. The salesman who can make you a resume. The cheap offer does not include a custom design! This means that a gig like this will probably only take him a few minutes. That must also be your goal. Only those who pay for it get your time!
Optimize gigs
Fiverr is a major search engine for services. If you want your offer to show up in search, then you need to optimize your Gig.
The easiest way to do this is to search for the service you want to offer and look at the first gigs that come up. Use this as a template for your gig description.
I would go so far as to say that you can even copy the best gigs. A few small adjustments are sufficient.

Fiverr emphasizes that you can sell more with a video. It is unclear whether a video can also have an influence on the ranking in the search. Creating one and explaining your gig could still be very useful.
